Raw Milk Revolution!

Blog

The Raw Milk Revolution continues on! We are so happy to support a small farm in Abbeville, SC that produces Raw Milk from healthy Jersey cows.

If you haven’t tried raw milk before, I would HIGHLY recommend it. Our family personally drinks about 3 gallons per week, and we love every drop!

I find it troubling that so many people struggle with dairy nowadays. As far as we can tell, humans have been drinking milk from cows, goats, sheep and camels for thousands and thousands of years. And now, all of a sudden, we can’t digest it? What happened?

Well, if you went to a modern-day (conventional) dairy, you would see why. The conditions are horrific. The cows are fed cheap grains only and spend most of their lives in a muddy feedlot or on concrete.

Furthermore, the milk they produce is so unsafe (unsanitary, due to the conditions that they live in), that they have to cook it (and sometimes color it white) before bottling it and shipping it across the nation. This process is called “pasteurization.” It makes the milk last much longer than it should, and it kills off the (good and bad) bacteria, as well as the digestive enzymes that help our guts break down the milk.

Milk used to only be able to travel so far. Before the Industrial Revolution, we had local farmers and the “Milk Man” who would deliver to homes in proximity to the farm. They knew that if the milk went much further, it would spoil.

But now, in man’s hubris, we’ve created “superior milk.” It can last for months without spoiling. It can travel in a tractor-trailer and cross the entire country. And as a result, hardly anyone can drink the stuff anymore.

When we “globalize” food, we only hurt ourselves. The globalization of agriculture incentivizes doing things the cheapest way possible to raise the bottom line for CEO’s and massive corporations. Food is meant to bring people together. Communities are meant to form around food, cooking and culinary enjoyment. Our nation’s health is at an all-time low. and it’s time to do something about it.

How about we go back a ways? Let’s support local farms, that treat their animals well and produce high-quality, bio-available food. Let’s take back the ownership of our nutrition and health. Let’s drink raw milk again…
